Avatar and Surrogates are two different movies. Surrogates is about the world living through robots to avoid the dangers of life, well one day someone starts killing the robots and the human host dies as well. Avatar is motion capture with the addition of introducing a new technology to its viewers. The story relies heavily on Cameron creating his own world that features its own ecosystem, politics, and religious based followings. Also it has the addition of aliens so its more along the lines of your Star Wars or Star Trek.
Surrogates apparently takes place on earth where Avatar takes place on earth and some other planet Pandora. This seems like a pretty creative idea for a movie and I just thought it was funny that these two movies seem to have almost the exact same premise.
